About Association
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this professional body are as follows
• To promote, foster and support the medical and allied sciences.
• To promote and enhance the interest, advancement and honour of the medical profession in general and of the members of the society in particular.
• To promote social, cultural and intellectual exchange among the members and their families.
• To aid Aligarh Medical graduates in UK individually and collectively in acquiring and maintaining high levels of standards in the profession.
• To provide facilities for its members for improvement in their professional knowledge.
• To assist fellow Aligarians and their children in pursuit of a medical career.
• To associate and co-operate with other Aligarh Medical Associations of different countries.
• To encourage the presentation, discussion and publication of medical and Scientific papers by the members at the meeting of the association.

DEFINITION OF MEMBERS
A Full Member: Doctors holding graduate or post graduate degrees from JLN Medical School, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh and maintaining permanent resident in UK. Former teachers of Medical School, Aligarh will also be admitted as full members.
An Associate Member: Medical graduates of other Medical Schools who have other qualifications from Aligarh Muslim University.
An Honorary Member : A person of any nationality distinguished in the pursuit of medical and allied sciences. He/she will be admitted by a majority vote of the executive committee and will be liable for the subscription as other members of the Association. An honorary member would not have right of voting in the election.
SUBSCRIPTION
Full Member................................. £20.00 per year
Associate Member........................ £20.00 per year
Honorary Member..........................£20.00 per year
To be paid annually. The subscription would run from one AGM to the next AGM. Members joining the association when the remaining subscription year is less than 4 months may pay half of the annual subscription.
Donations will be gratefully accepted at any time and would be most welcome.
GOVERNING BODY OF THE ASSOCIATION
The affairs of the association will be conducted democratically by elected office bearers from the full members, forming the executive committee as follows:-
• Chairman - one
• Vice - Chairman - one
• General Secretary - one
• Joint Secretary - one
• Treasurer - one
• Committee Members - five (preferably one of them would be female doctor).
DUTIES OF THE OFFICE BEARER
The chairman will preside over the meetings of the executive committee and the general body and will generally provide guidance and help to the other members of the executive committee. He/she will have the casting vote in case of a tie on any voting occasion.
The vice-chairman will assist the chairman and perform the duties of the chairman in his absence.
The general secretary will provide the secretarial services to the association in arranging meetings, preparing the agenda and taking necessary steps to implement the decisions of the executive committee and the general body. He shall present an annual report on the activities of the association at the annual general meeting and similar reports at the meetings of the executive committee.
The joint secretary shall assist the general secretary in the execution of the duties and shall perform the duties of the general secretary in his/her absence.
The treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining the accounts of the association to carry out the financial decisions of the executive committee and general body. He shall prepare and present the statement of the accounts at the annual general body meeting.
Members of the executive committee shall generally assist the office bearers in running the affairs of the association and shall serve on any sub-committee formed by the executive committee from time to time.
THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The executive committee shall be responsible for the following:-
• Laying down the policy of the association.
• Exercising control over the finances, assets and liabilities of the association.
• Appointing persons or sub-committees to attend or to report on specific matters.
• Inviting distinguished guest speakers or visiting overseas professional colleagues to the meetings of the association.
• Calling for and arranging general election for the office bearers of the association at the appropriate time.
• Considering to accept resignation submitted by any office bearers or members.
• Recommending to the general body by a majority vote the removal of an offic bearer after such time he/she has been given sufficient time and full opportunity to explain their case.
• Filling the casual vacancies in the executive committee.
• If a post becomes vacant for any reason the executive committee would choose a member of the committee to fill the vacancy until the next AGM.
The quorum for the executive committee shall be five members.
The GENERAL BODY shall decide by a single majority vote on any matter referred to it by the executive committee. It may confirm, review or reverse any decision taken by the executive committee by simple majority EXCEPT constitutional amendments which will have to be approved by a simple majority in the executive committee and then by two third majority of the general body , after a prior notice of 28 days of the intention of moving such an amendment. Any full member can suggest ideas or move any matter for discussion and for approval by the general body after suitable prior notice to the general secretary, so that the particular item could be included under "any other business".
FINANCE
The Association’s account will be maintained in the name of Aligarh Medical Association UK. It will be operated and managed by the treasurer jointly with the chairman and general secretary. Any two of the above three office bearers can sign the cheque for the association. The income and expenditure items will be carefully recorded by the treasurer. The financial year will run from 1 January to 31 December.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The AGM will be held on a date decided by the executive committee.
ELECTIONS
• The elections for all offices of the executive committee will be held every 2 years.
• A minimum notice of 28 days will be given to all members.
• The election will be simple majority with each full and associate member having one vote to cast for each office.
• Each candidate for a post will be proposed by one member and seconded by another member.
DISSOLUTION OF THE ASSOCIATION
If necessary, the association will be dissolved by such a resolution passed by two third majority of the general body, the meeting being held at least 28 days by prior notice to all members. Any assets held by or in the name of association that remain after paying all known debts and liabilities shall be donated and transferred to such associations, organisations or institutions which have objects similar to ours after approval by the general body.
